About this Recipe

Cumin rice, also known as Jeera Rice, is a fragrant Basmati rice dish flavored with toasted cumin seeds and ghee. This rice is commonly found in Indian cuisine and is a perfect side dish to any curry. If you don’t have ghee, feel free to use melted butter or vegetable oil instead.

1

Toast cumin seeds

  • In mixing bowl, combine cumin and bay leaf with 1 teaspoon oil.
  • Spread evenly across Zone 2 of Brava metal tray.
  • Slide metal tray into top shelf.
  • Select “Cumin Rice” on your Brava’s touchscreen.
  • Press green button to continue cooking.
  • Note: You will remove spices after 45 seconds.

2

Prep rice

  • When Brava notifies you, carefully remove metal tray and return cumin and bay leaf to mixing bowl.
  • Rinse rice in a fine mesh strainer until water runs clear. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Drain rice.
  • In mixing bowl containing cumin and bay, stir together rice, ghee, yogurt and 1 ½ teaspoons salt.
  • Pour mixture into Brava Chef’s Pan; spread out evenly.
  • Add 2¼ cups water to Chef’s Pan. Stir gently, making sure all rice grains are submerged.
  • Cover Chef’s Pan with lid.

3

Cook rice

  • Slide Chef’s Pan, covered, into top shelf.
  • Press green button to continue cooking.

4

Finish & serve

  • Carefully remove Chef’s Pan from Brava.
  • Fluff rice with fork and serve.
